Christopher Meloni, who is most well-known for playing the role of Elliot Stabler on “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” for over 10 years, is back with a brand new series. This time, on Syfy.

The dark action-comedy, “Happy!,” premieres on the network on Wednesday at 10 p.m. EST and is perfect for anyone who wants to see a little gruesomeness, followed by a little comic relief.

The series is based on the graphic novel of the same name by Grant Morrison and Darick Robertson and follows Nick Sax (Meloni), “an intoxicated, corrupt ex-cop turned hit man who is adrift in a world of casual murder, soulless sex and betrayal,” according to the show’s synopsis.

“After a hit gone wrong, his inebriated life is forever changed by a tiny, relentlessly positive, imaginary blue winged horse named ‘Happy’ (Patton Oswalt),” the summary continues.

In the series premiere, titled “Saint Nick,” viewers will meet Nick Sax as he figures out what is going on with him and why he can’t seem to die, as well as see him partner up with the imaginary blue horse in order to rescue a missing child.

Oswalt, who stars as the voice of Happy, might sound familiar to fans of “The Goldbergs,” as he’s been the voice of the narrator on the long-running series for over 100 episodes. He’s also voiced characters on Netflix’s “Bojack Horseman,” “Archer” and many other series.

Before “Happy!,” Meloni’s most recent credits include a few episodes of “Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later” earlier this year and WGN’s drama series “Underground.”

As for the behind-the-scenes talent, original author Morrison is an executive producer, as is Brian Taylor, and they both co-wrote the pilot, too. Neal Moritz, Pavun Shetty and Toby Jaffe, Meloni and showrunner Patrick Macmanus also serve as executive producers on the show.

Though you won’t want to miss the show’s premiere in its usual timeslot and join in on the fun on social media, where fans will be surely be live-tweeting about the new series, there will be more opportunities to catch the first episode, including at 12:59 a.m. EST on Thursday.

The first chance to see “Happy!” will be on Syfy tonight at 10 p.m. EST.
