The uprising in Syira took a a deadly turn on Friday, with several casualties being reported from protesters' camp as well as the government. According to media reports, the Friday clashes have claimed 25 civilian lives and 19 police personnel.

A protest in the restive southern Syrian city of Deraa turned bloody when clashes broke out between the security forces and civilians. Deraa has been a focus for anti-government rallies since three weeks.

Civilians, including activists and residents, claim that as many as 25 people were killed when security forces opened fire on the protesters.

Acording to the state television, 19 policemen were killed by armed groups.

The protests seeking sweeping changes in Syria's authoritarian regime began three weeks ago.
