The original cast of MTV’s “16 and Pregnant” spinoff series “Teen Mom” said their goodbye to TV viewers following four seasons on air back in August 2012. While the show's stars: Farrah Abraham, Catelynn Lowell, Maci Bookout and Amber Portwood have since returned to the network, airing separate one-hour catch-up specials earlier this year (Bookout's aired in August 2013), the foursome might just be planning an official return to the teen pregnancy awareness docuseries according to recent speculation.

While not directly confirming a potential fifth season of “Teen Mom,” former star, Ryan Edwards, ex-boyfriend and father to 22-year-old Maci Bookout’s son Bentley, now 5, recently teased the show's possible return on social media. “Little bit of an over kill don’t ya think mtv,” Edwards posted on Twitter March 28, the telling message shared alongside image of three GoPro cameras attached to the inside of a vehicle, a taping method frequently used by the program.

While MTV has yet to confirm rumors of a possible “Teen Mom” reboot, multiple reports have surfaced in recent weeks claiming that the network is in the process of bringing the hit docuseries back to airwaves. Unfortunately for Abraham, 22, and her 5-year-old daughter Sophia, Us Weekly published claims in March that her fellow “Teen Mom” co-stars want her axed from any potential upcoming episodes due to her recent venture into the adult film industry. “They don’t want their kids on a show where someone’s talking about sex toys,” said a source, adding that MTV producers “wouldn’t definitely consider dumping Farrah to get the other girls.”

Rumors of a potential original “Teen Mom” comeback comes on the heels of reports that the second spinoff series, “Teen Mom 2,” is in danger of facing cancellation. “There is no season 6 of Teen Mom 2,” an insider revealed to Radar Online last month. While a source close to the show’s production confirmed that the series is currently shooting with plans to air additional episodes for a season 5B, the show, starring Kailyn Lowry Marroquin, Jenelle Evans, Chelsea Houska and Leah Messer-Calvert, is reportedly still on the chopping block. “They want to end Teen Mom 2 with high ratings,” added an insider.

MTV announced Monday that the “Teen Mom 2” season 5 finale will air on a special night, Sunday, April 13 at 7 p.m. ET, prior to the 2014 MTV Movie Awards. The 90-minutes finale will re-air a shortened version of the episode on its usual night, Tuesday April 15 at 9 p.m. ET.

In December, MTV announced the official cancellation of “Teen Mom 3”. The series, which premiered last August, was reportedly cancelled after only one season due to rumored “lack of drama” between the series four mothers: Brianna DeJesus, Alex Sekella, Mackenzie McKee and Katie Yeager.
