Android apps are now available for download on the BlackBerry PlayBook thanks to a new OS 2.0 software update. The update began rolling out Feb. 21, and it's free to all PlayBook owners. The apps won't come from the Android Market, instead, they'll be offered through the BlackBerry Appworld once they are ported over. So far, there are only a couple hundred that run well, but as more developers convert their apps for the QNX system, more popular apps like Words With Friends will be available.

The new operating system has been a long time coming, and it's only now available after the PlayBook dropped in price from $500 at launch to $200 now for the 16GB version. Whether or not the new system and Android app will combine for wider adoption of the seven-inch PlayBook is not yet known, but Research in Motion, the company that makes BlackBerry is already said to be working on a new system called BlackBerry 10. They may even launch a new PlayBook to go with the new system, but in the meantime, try out these 10 great apps that were not available on the PlayBook before the new system update. Start the slideshow to see 10 of the best Android apps for PlayBook OS 2.0. Tell us in the comments what apps you're waiting for, and check out this running list of apps getting ported over.
