The latest installment to the “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” franchise will be putting the series’ villain, Leatherface, into a new environment. Entertainment Weekly said it has exclusive photos from the film that show the chainsaw-wielding madman walking down an empty hall, and approaching a carnival.

Leatherface at a carnival is a different tone than the rest of the "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" films have had, with almost all of the action taking place in dingy houses and dreary basements. The bright lights and large crowds will force the misunderstood killer to pursue his prey in a different arena, now that he has left the comforts of his own home.

The reimagining of the film, which was directed by John Luessenhop ("Takers"), also plays the role of a direct sequel to Tobe Hooper’s 1974 horror classic that started the franchise. This will discard parts two and three, both remakes and the prequel that have been made since “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” revved up for the first time three decades ago.

“Texas Chainsaw 3D” is set to open on the first Friday of the New Year: debuting Jan. 4, 2013. The slasher flick will be up against “The Impossible” and “A Dark Truth.”

The seventh Leatherface film will revolve around Heather (Alexandra Daddario), a young woman who finds out she's adopted when her biological grandmother dies, and she and her friends take a road trip to see an old farmhouse.

Upcoming Horror Movies posted a spoiler-filled plot synopsis of “Texas Chainsaw 3D.”

“Twenty years before the film starts, the townspeople of Newt, Texas, burn down the Sawyer family farm. The act of violence came as vengeance for what the Sawyer family had assisted and concealed: murders committed (by) Jeb Sawyer, a psychotic killer who also goes by Leatherface.

The character of Heather was an infant related to the Sawyers who was found by two Newt townies who decided to take her in. She only finds out she's adopted when a lawyer finds her and informs her that she's acquired an inheritance.

Heather and four friends decide to go to the address of her grandmother's estate and they find an extravagant mansion, but also unleash a resting Leatherface from a hidden room in the home. One by one they're all picked off and the usual horror chase ensues.

After some internal conflict, Heather eventually decides to stand against the mob of townspeople out to get the remaining Sawyers. Heather decides that blood is thicker than water and stands with her cousin to avenge the town's brutality."
