Update: 1:50 p.m. EST -- One of the two individuals shot Friday morning in a student housing complex near Texas Southern University is dead, according to the Houston Police Department. A potential suspect is also in custody, the force wrote. The shooting, which took place at around 11:30 a.m. local time, resulted in a lockdown of the school.

Original Story: At least one person was shot near Texas Southern University Friday morning, according to initial reports from KPRC 2 Houston. The shooting reportedly took place in a student housing complex near the university at around 11:30 a.m. Other stations reported two shot in the attack.

The campus was reportedly put on lockdown and as of 11:50 a.m. local time, police were still searching for the suspect. It marked the second shooting on a college campus Friday. The first one was early in the morning at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona. That shooting claimed the life of one and injured three others.

The shootings coincide with a visit by President Barack Obama to Roseburg, Oregon, to visit victims of last week's campus shooting at a community college there.
