pretty little liars spinoff
A “Pretty Little Liars” spinoff is on its way. Freeform

“Pretty Little Liars” is getting a spinoff! The Freeform series ended not too long ago, but there are already plans in motion to get a couple of its characters back on our TVs.

Showrunner I. Marlene King is back in charge and working with author Sara Shepard again to bring her “Pretty Little Liars” spinoff novel series “The Perfectionists” to life. The adaptation went into development back in 2014 but was shelved until now.

The new Freeform drama will bring back Sasha Pieterse’s Alison DiLaurentis and Janel Parrish’s Mona Vanderwaal as well as bring in a whole new cast of characters.

Currently, the network is only working on a pilot for the series, but if that goes well, a full series order shouldn’t be far behind.

“At Freeform, we are committed to delivering shows that push boundaries and become a part of our viewers’ lives. ‘Pretty Little Liars’ was a cultural phenomenon so it’s no wonder fans wanted more,” Karey Burke, executive vp programming and development at Freeform, said in a statement. “We can’t wait to continue Marlene King’s rich and revolutionary storytelling with a new crop of leading ladies from Beacon Heights who will hold just as many secrets and lies as Rosewood did.”

Fans of the original series will be happy to know that a couple familiar faces aren't the only things the two shows will have in common. There will still be deaths, secrets, great outfits, fierce friendships and relationships to both adore and hate.

“Everything about the town of Beacon Heights seems perfect, from their top-tier college to their overachieving residents,” Freeform describes the series in its press release. “But nothing in Beacon Heights is as it appears to be. The stress of needing to be perfect leads to the town’s first murder. Behind every Perfectionist is a secret, a lie and a needed alibi.”

This isn’t the first spinoff this series has gotten, though. Back in 2013, Caleb (Tyler Blackburn) got his own show as he ventured to one town over and discovered all its spooky secrets. Well, as many of those secrets as he could uncover in one season, which is sadly all the show lasted for. Afterwards, Caleb returned home to Rosewood and back onto “Pretty Little Liars.” Perhaps he’ll show up next in “The Perfectionists.”

Hopefully the other “Pretty Little Liars” characters – Aria (Lucy Hale), Spencer (Troian Bellisario), Hannah (Ashley Benson), Emily (Shay Mitchell), Ezra (Ian Harding) and Toby (Keegan Allen) – find their way to the spinoff series for a bit as well. If King has her way, surely they will, as she’s mentioned to International Business Times in the past that she’d love to have all the characters together again after the series ended.

“I hope someday because it’s really hard to say goodbye to these characters,” King told IBT. “I think of ‘Gilmore Girls’ and shows like that where a long time goes by. People do their own thing and they find another passion, and then we find a way to come back together. That would be my goal.”

Looks like “The Perfectionists” is a perfect stepping stone to reaching that goal.
