People will take sides in the upcoming Marvel film “Thor: Ragnarok” — some will fight for Thor (Chris Hemsworth), while others will support Hela (Cate Blanchett).

One of Hela’s supporters is Skurge the Executioner (Karl Urban). Urban told Trek Movie that his character made the decision to fight for Hela not because he admires her, but because he was left with no other choice.

“My character is operating the Bifrost device and suddenly Cate Blanchett walks through the Bifrost and I very astutely realized I either joined her or die,” Urban said. “So my character is a survivalist. The journey of Skurge is really ‘OK, now you made a pact with the devil and it comes with a price.’ That price is constantly upped through the movie and that is his journey.”

A lot of people are excited for the new movie because director Taika Waititi put a fresh and humorous spin to it. At the same time, they are eager to watch Blanchett give Thor and his friends a run for their money.

Blanchett told E! News that it was an honor for her to be Marvel’s first villainess, but she hopes they will continue presenting formidable women on the big screen. “I didn’t realize… I was inhabiting the first female Marvel villain onscreen,” she said. “I thought, ‘Surely not… well, no actually that’s true.’ There’s been many, many, many [female villains] in the comic books, but they’ve been a little tardy in bringing them to the screen, so hopefully there will be a lot more villainesses.”

As to what made her agree to join the cast of “Thor: Ragnarok,” Blanchett admitted it wasn’t for the honor of being Marvel’s first female baddie, but for the honor of being the one to destroy Thor’s (Chris Hemsworth) beloved hammer, Mjölnir. “That had me at ‘hello’ actually,” Blanchett said of her character destroying Thor’s weapon. “I thought that was really exciting that they were prepared to destroy Thor’s power in the first few minutes. It’s a nice entrance.”

Her co-star, Mark Ruffalo, who plays the Hulk, had to agree. “She plays the worst of the worst,” Ruffalo told Entertainment Weekly. “So evil. She is going to kill us. It’s such a great part she gets to play.”

“Thor: Ragnarok” will be released on Nov. 3.
