San Antonio Spurs star Tim Duncan’s acrimonious divorce from wife Amy Duncan was finalized after the presiding judge made a “house call” to end the proceedings.

In what has been characterized as a “secret hearing,” District Judge David A. Canales finalized the divorce between Tim and Amy Duncan, the San Antonio Express-News reports. Canales reportedly presided over the hearing during his lunch hour.

Canales claims that he agreed to administer the “secret hearing” because both Tim and Amy Duncan were uncomfortable with a public court appearance, due to the inevitable presence of paparazzi, the Express-News reports. However, the judge noted that he has never before presided over such a meeting. “I don’t see it as doing a special favor for the sake of a favor,” Canales told the paper. “These folks were involved in a very private manner. It was mainly for privacy.

The “secret hearing” marked an official ending to the marriage between Tim Duncan and wife Amy Duncan. The couple met while attending Wake Forest University together and married in 2001. Specific details regarding the divorce, such as custody of the couple’s two children, were not immediately revealed.

Neither Tim nor Amy Duncan made public mention of the exact reasons behind the divorce. According to each parties’ divorce petitions, “The marriage has become insupportable because of discord or conflict of personalities between petitioner and respondent that destroys the legitimate ends of the marriage relationship and prevents any reasonable expectation of reconciliation.”

The lack of readily available information regarding the couple’s divorce prompted widespread speculation on the Internet and social media regarding the cause of their separation. Initial reports suggested that Tim Duncan had hired a private investigator to track his now ex-wife’s movements as much as a year before the couple filed for divorce. The report caused some to suggest that the 38-year-old suspected his wife of cheating on him. It is unclear whether the investigator discovered any evidence of cheating.

Speculation regarding Amy Duncan’s alleged cheating increased when court documents revealed that Tim Duncan’s lawyers were attempting to obtain information on Gilbert R. Urbano Jr., a San Antonio-based personal trainer, the Express-News reports. One such document reportedly prevented Urbano from being in the presence of Duncan’s children.

Urbano told the Express-News that he was “unfamiliar” with the reasons for his inclusion in the Duncans’ divorce proceedings. The personal trainer denied that he had been issued a subpoena to appear in court and did not elaborate on his ties to Tim or Amy Duncan. "I guess I'll find out about it from the courts and not the newspaper," Urbano told the paper. Neither Tim nor Amy Duncan have provided a public explanation for Urbano’s involvement.
