Queen Elizabeth of England has conferred a new title to her grandson at the occasion of his wedding on Friday.

A statement issued by the press secretary to the Queen announced that William has been given the titles Duke of Cambridge, Earl of Strathearn and Baron Carrickfergus.

Prince William thus becomes His Royal Highness The Duke of Cambridge and Miss Catherine Middleton on marriage will become Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge, the royal wedding website states.

As per Royal family customs, it is mandatory for the monarch to issue at least one title at the time of marriage. Other titles which have been considered prior to the wedding was Duke of Clarence and the Duke of Sussex.
