Japan's Toho Zinc Co Ltd plans to produce 48,813 tonnes of zinc in the April-September first half, down 20.1 percent from a year earlier, the company said in a statement.

Japanese smelters have been producing less metal this year as the nation's worst recession since World War Two cuts sharply into demand.
