Tom D’Agostino is not afraid to admit that he is struggling following the end of his relationship with reality star Luann de Lesseps. The 50-year-old businessman then revealed that despite the unfortunate situation he is in, he still wishes the best for his ex-wife.

On Thursday, D’Agostino had the chance to voice his thoughts about the split to Us Weekly. He admitted during the interview that “there was real love lost here.” D’Agostino disclosed that he’s struggling in the wake of the breakup and that he is “saddened” by it. Still, he maintained that he wishes “Luann only the best.”

In a separate interview with E! News, D’Agostino elaborated that he simply fell in love with de Lesseps, “got married quickly and am very sad that two people in love are not together.” He also managed to poke fun at the situation by saying that “the publicized reasons for the divorce make for a great reality TV story line.”

This is the first time that D’Agostino has opened up after he and de Lesseps announced that they are planning to divorce. Previously, it was only through his rep that “Real Housewives of New York” fans learned about his thoughts on the split. “Tom is sad about the end of the marriage. He and Luann are being supportive and kind to each other,” D’Agostino’s rep said following the announcement of their intent to divorce, as per Bravo.

D’Agostino and de Lesseps tied the knot on Dec. 31, 2016. The couple shocked their fans when de Lesseps announced via Twitter on Aug. 3 that they were splitting. “It’s with great sadness that Tom & I agreed to divorce. We care for each other very much, hope you respect our privacy during this said time,” the tweet read.

De Lesseps has also addressed the split. During a recent exclusive interview with People, she revealed that “this has been one of the toughest times of my life … I have a sense of failure, and I hate to fail. I wake up at night, and my bed feels empty now that he’s gone.”

Prior to tying the knot with D’Agostino, de Lesseps was formerly married to Count Alexandre de Lesseps from 1993 to 2009. The “RHONY” star and her first ex-husband are parents to two children, Noel and Victoria.
