The leader of the Heaven's Gate cult who led 39 people in a mass suicide in Southern California was a man named Marshall Applewhite, CBS News reported March 27. Applewhite is shown addressing followers in a videotape aired by the network and made just days ago in which Applewhite said, "You can follow us, but you cannot stay here and follow us." CBS said his body was among the 39 found dead at a mansion outside of San Diego.
