Laptops are still being used worldwide notwithstanding the growing popularity of tablets and iPads. Here is a list of the top 5 laptops in 2011 with the best specs running Windows 7.

Acer TravelMate TimelineX TM 8372: One of the best and the most reasonable laptops made for both gamers and business purposes. The Acer TravelMate has an amazing battery life of about 8 hours. However, the laptop is a bit heavy (4.6lbs), but isn’t bulky. The device has a simple design, a smooth metal lid and runs on Windows 7 Professional. The Acer TravelMate has a 13.3-inch screen with a 4GB RAM and Intel Core i5 processor. The laptop starts at $899.

ASUS U36SD: The ASUS made laptop maybe small in size but compensates with its fast i5 Core processor and NVIDIA GeForce graphics set. The battery life has been extended to 10 hours and weighs just 3.7 pounds. Other specs include a 4GB DDR3 RAM and a 640GB hard drive.

Sony VAIO SB: This is one of the most high-end business-class laptops which are worth the money spent. Priced at $999, the machine includes an Intel i5 or i7 processor, a Blu-Ray Drive, a hybrid AMD Radeon HD 6630 graphics with the option of auto-switching between incorporated and distinct GPUs, and a backlit keyboard. The laptop has up to 15 hours of battery life and also a second battery for emergency. The Sony Vaio SB expects to compete with the Macbook Pro according to the specs but is $300-400 less.

Samsung 900x: Considered as the most stylish of all the ultra-thin laptops, the Samsung Series 9 flashes a big multi-touch trackpad, a LCD display, 3 W Stereo HD Audio and a 1.3 MP HD webcam. A 128GB SSD (Solid State Drive) is provided for a faster boot-up. The 900x is available for $1600.

HP (HPQ) Elitebook 8460P: The Elitebook was made for mobile business-minded professionals who work in a protected and supervised environment. The laptop has security software called HP ProtectTools. Other apps such as DirectAccess, BitLocker to Go, AppLocker and BranchCache are also included. The laptop has a mammoth 8GB RAM and an i7 processor, and is available for $999.
