In heavy rain, British cyclist Mark Cavendish got his 18th career victory and is now only four behind Lance Armstrong at the Tour de France.

Cavendish has 251 points, as the leader in the point standings. Spaniard Jose Joaquin Rojas is second with 235.

Thomas Voeckler of France retained his overall race leader's yellow jersey.

It's incredible to have the green jersey, it's the most beautiful jersey in the world, said Cavendish, after taking the lead in the standings from Belgian Philippe Gilbert.
