The movie has received only positive reviews, a 100 percent rating, according to the reviews aggregation site Rottentomatoes.com. Film critics mostly praise its appealing story about toys that come to life but also laud its creativity, comedy and timeless qualities.

The result is a visionary roller-coaster ride of a movie, film critic Roger Ebert wrote in his review in the Chicago Sun-Times.

Children will enjoy a new take on the irresistible idea of toys coming to life. Adults will marvel at a witty script and utterly brilliant anthropomorphism, film critic Janet Maslin from the New York Times said.

In June 2010 Pixar is scheduled to release Toy Story 3. The sequel is directed by Lee Unkrich who also co-directed Finding Nemo, Monsters Inc. and Toy Story 2.
