A bus-train crash in Bangladesh killed at least nine. Reuters

Update as of 3: 59 a.m. EDT: At least 11 people -- mostly women and children -- were killed and more than 56 others injured after a train collided with a passenger bus at a railroad crossing in the city of Kaliganj in Bangladesh, early on Friday.

According to BangladeshNews24.com, the bus was carrying a bride’s family and friends back from a wedding, and the driver attempted to negotiate the unmanned railway crossing, about 28 miles from the nation's capital Dhaka, without noticing the incoming train.

“The train ploughed through the bus and dragged it more than one kilometer (about half a mile) along the tracks,” a local official reportedly said. The injured were admitted to nearby hospitals, and doctors said that the death count could increase as 10 people were critically injured.

A train collided with a passenger bus in the Bar Bazaar area of Bangladesh that killed at least nine people and injured 50 more, BangladeshNews24.com reported Thursday.

According to witnesses, the incident occurred at a train crossing at dawn.

The identities of the deceased and injured are not yet known.
