Paramount Pictures has released a new teaser trailer for its next installment in the “Transformers” series, “Transformers: Age of Extinction.”

Unlike the brief Super Bowl spot for “Transformers: Age of Extinction,” this longer teaser gives viewers a much better look at the premise behind the coming “Transformers” film.

Notably absent from this installment of “Transformers” is Shia LaBeouf, who played Sam Witwicky in the previous films. With LaBeouf’s character out of the picture, the story shifts its focus onto a mechanic (Mark Wahlberg) and his daughter (Nicola Peltz), who rediscovers Optimus Prime, who appears to be dormant after the events of “Dark of the Moon.”

It appears that “Transformers: Age of Extinction” picks up sometime after the events of “Transformers: Dark of the Moon,” in a future where the United States and the world are recovering from the aftermath of the battle between the Autobots and the Decepticons.

While the trailer raises more questions than answers, it appears that Michael Bay has taken the “Transformers” series in a different direction with this soft reboot.

The Autobots are in hiding, the government is hunting Transformers down and the Decepticons are back as well -- with Dinobots joining the fray.

“Transformers: Age of Extinction” is scheduled for theatrical release on June 27 in the U.S.
