True Blood
Rutina Wesley opened up about the shocking Season 7 premiere of "True Blood." HBO

“True Blood” returned for its seventh and final season by killing off a major character within the first five minutes of the premiere. Fans were left in shock as the Bon Temps folks struggled to deal with the latest death to hit the town. Now that dead character's actor is speaking out and revealing how they found out about their Season 7 demise.

WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD! Do NOT continue reading unless you watched the Season 7 premiere of “True Blood.”

Episode 1, “Jesus Gonna Be Here,” kicked off with the horde of Hep-V vampires attacking the human-vampire mixer at Bellefleur’s. Humans and vampires alike teamed up to fight off the rabid creatures. But not everyone was lucky enough to survive.

After just rekindling her relationship with her estranged mother, Tara wasn’t going to let Lettie Mae die at the hands of a Hep-V vamp. Tara fought off the infected monster while Lettie Mae watched on in fear. The attack ended in a blink of an eye when a whistle called off the Hep-V vamps … and Sookie discovered Lettie Mae holding the bloody remains of her daughter.

So, how does Tara’s Rutina Wesley feel about her character’s death?

“I think it’s great,” Wesley told Entertainment Weekly. “I think somebody had to go. To have a main character right off the bat go, that’s gonna bring everybody into the show. It’s like, ‘Okay, and the show has started.’ It’s kind of like the catalyst for everything that’s gonna probably happen – I don’t know what’s gonna happen, because I didn’t read anything else because I wanted to be surprised.”

One coming moment she can’t wait for? Pam’s response to her death!

“For Pam, it’s going to be interesting to see how it affects her, to see if she shows any emotion at all,” Wesley dished to TV Guide. “I’m curious to see myself, actually.”

Wesley found out about Tara’s fate over the hiatus between Season 6 and Season 7. And while no one wants to say goodbye, she did say that she liked the way her character went out.

“I think it’s kinda cool that the last time you see me, it looks like I’m gonna win the fight, and then you cut to Lettie Mae,” Wesley added to EW. “Me and that vampire went at it, and unfortunately, he wins.”

But despite Tara’s “true death,” there is still hope to see the character on screen.

“She’s dead,” she confirmed to EW. “But I can tease that dead doesn’t always mean gone on ‘True Blood.’”

Perhaps visions of Tara is how Lettie Mae’s storyline will play out in Season 7? As we previously reported, actress Adina Porter was upped to a series regular for the final season. Fans saw Tara’s mother have a meltdown after drinking Willa’s blood, believing that her daughter was in the room with her. The Reverend was forced to tell Willa about his wife’s history of abuse and ask her to never feed Lettie Mae any more of her blood. With flashbacks and the introduction of Tara’s father set for some point in the final season, could fans expect Lettie Mae to relapse into her old habits?
