true detective season finale spoilers
Will the Season finale of "True Detective" shock us? Nic Pizzolatto says no. True Detective

Fans of “True Detective” have been playing the role of investigator ever since the HBO series aired episode 1 of its first season. But now, it looks like admirers of the anthology can sit back and relax after Nic Pizzolatto confessed the key in solving the Yellow King mystery.

According to the creator, he’s been spoon feeding fans the answer to the series finale since “True Detective” began. “The show’s not trying to outsmart you,” he told the Daily Beast. “I’ve enjoyed reading people theorize about what’s going to happen because it’s a sign that you’re connecting. But I’m also sort of surprised by how far afield they’re getting. Like, why do you think we’re tricking you? It’s because you’ve been abused as an audience for more than 20 years. I cannot think of anything more insulting as an audience than to go through eight weeks, eight hours with these people, and then to be told it was a lie—that what you were seeing wasn’t really what was happening.”

Pizzolatto went on to say that if fans of the thriller really pay attention that “the first episode will tell you 85 percent of the story of the first six episodes.” With that being said, is it safe to say that the series finale won’t be as surprising as we thought? Fans have concocted predictions that Cohle and Hart could possibly be the killers of “True Detective,” but the series' creator wants you to think again.

“I think they’re both actually heroic in the sense that they’re not corrupt men,” Pizzolatto confessed. “They’re doing their job well. They’re honest cops. There are moments throughout the series where they could let the case go, but they don’t. So they may not be moral exemplars, but I do think they’re heroes. If the average person thinks that in similar situations he could behave with courage equal to Cohle and Hart, great—I guess you’re a hero, too.”

It makes sense that the former detectives wouldn’t be the killers. Which leads us to believe that the Tuttle family is definitely responsible for the murders of Louisiana women and children. The family is big, powerful, and know Louisiana like the back of their hand—or so Errol, the “spaghetti monster,” admitted in episode 7. But which one of them is the Yellow King? Perhaps the Yellow King isn’t even a person but a deity and the Tuttle family makes up the five horsemen. There’s a lot to consider regarding who is the killer but if Pizzolatto is claiming we won’t be surprised, then this is exactly what we think is going to happen.
