Toronto's main stock index opened higher on Wednesday, helped by solid U.S. data and corporate earnings that offset concerns about the outcome of a summit on Europe's debt crisis.

The Toronto Stock Exchange's S&P/TSX composite index opened up 7.63 points, or 0.06 percent, at 12,117.38.
