Turkey's jobless rate climbed to 15.5% in the December to February period from 11.6% in the corresponding period last year, the Turkish Statistical Institute said Wednesday. The number of unemployed increased to 3.6 million from 2.6 million last year. In the November to January period, the jobless rate was 13.6%.

Meanwhile, the number of employed persons grew to 19.8 million from 19.7 million in the previous year. However, the employment rate declined to 38.7% from 39.3%.

In the December to February period, there were 23.5 million persons in the labor force, up from 22.4 million in the previous year. The participation rate increased to 45.8% from 44.4% last year.
