  • Dr. Jill Biden wore a jacket with the word "love" on the back during her and President Joe Biden's U.K. visit
  • Some Twitter users were reminded of Melania Trump's infamous "I really don't care do u?" jacket
  • Others defended Trump saying the message of her coat was for those "attacking" her

Dr. Jill Biden sent a message of "love" in the U.K. through her clothing during her and President Joe Biden's first international trip, sparking comparisons to former first lady Melania Trump's infamous jacket online.

On Thursday, the FLOTUS wore a black jacket with the word "love" outlined on the back in silver beading when she and her husband joined British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his new wife Carrie Johnson for a photo-op at a scenic vista overlooking the shore of England's Carbis Bay ahead of the G7 summit, NBC News reported.

A number of Twitter users were reminded of the infamous army green jacket her predecessor wore that had a very different message. Trump sported a Zara coat that featured graffiti writing on the back with the words "I really don't care do u?" during a trip to a migrant child detention center in Texas in 2018.

Biden drew praise for the positive message she sent, with one person tweeting, "I Love this jacket. FLOTUS Jill Biden is sending out a clear message which is completely different from her Predecessor Melania Trump."

"WOW!! Huge statement from the First Lady Dr. Jill Biden!! LOVE HER!" another wrote.

"Melania Trump wears a hate jacket. Jill Biden wears a love jacket. Me, I'll take Love over Hate every day. #AllYouNeedIsLove," another wrote.

"Dr. Jill Biden is an amazing First Lady," a fourth user tweeted.

Others rushed to Trump's defense, with some claiming that her army green jacket had been a message to the press.

"Note To Jill: Sorry. You're not Melania. You never will be. Get over it," one wrote.

"Melania Trump was a great role model for our children, Jill Biden is an EMBARRASSMENT to the entire country," another tweeted.

"Melania wore the jacket to the airport in DC, as a message to the nasty partisan media, that always attacked her. (And keep doing) Jill's jacket, LOVE, ridiculous. 'Bringing love...' *eyeroll* @MELANIATRUMP was a kind, gracious, elegant FLOTUS, who represented the US beautifully," a third user added.

"Jill Biden thought she was trolling Melania Trump with the choice of a jacket? Really? When people, including Melania's fellow Europeans, compare the two, they aren't talking about jackets," another person wrote.

Some rejected the claims that Biden was trolling her predecessor with her choice of jacket.

"I doubt Jill is trying to dig at Melania. But she probably did take note that a message on the back of the first lady’s jacket is noticeable & can inspire conversation," Twitter user @BetOnHumanity wrote.

When asked by reporters about her jacket — which she's worn before, most recently on the campaign trail in 2020 — Biden explained the meaning behind it.

"I think that we’re bringing love from America," she said. "This is a global conference and we are trying to bring unity across the globe and I think it’s needed right now, that people feel a sense of unity from all the countries and feel a sense of hope after this year of the pandemic."
