RTTNews - Friday, a monthly survey from the research group GfK NOP showed that consumer confidence in the U.K. stood stable at minus 27 in May. Economists had expected the index to rise to minus 25.
This is still very low historically, but is at least standing firm in the face of continuing depressed markets and May's warnings of a possible pandemic, Racheal Joy in the consumer confidence team at GfK NOP said.
The GfK NOP conducts consumer confidence survey on behalf of the European Commission. The survey was carried out between May 1 and 10.
Among five sub indicators, the index measuring personal financial situation over the past 12 months dropped slightly to minus 19 from minus 18, while assessment of future financial position improved by 2 points to minus 1.
The indicator for general economic situation for the last 12 months slipped to minus 79 and general economic outlook worsened to minus 16. At the same time, climate for major purchases stayed at minus 22 in May.
