FXstreet.com (Barcelona) - Prices at consumer level have increased fairly above expectations in April, posting the highest year-on year increase seen since March last year, same accounts for the retail prices index, according to data released by National Statistics.

Prices have risen 3.0% in April from April last year, up from the 2.5% yearly increase posted last month. Ther core CPI has risen 1.4% on the year. From March to April, consumer prices have increased 0.8%, twice as fast as the 0.4% increase posted in March.

The largest contribution for the yearly CPI came from housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels.

Retail prices have increased 4.2% on the year, up from the 3.8% increase posted in March.
