FXstreet.com (Barcelona) - Industrial production edged down in January in the UK, while the Manufacturing Output Index has recovered from the previous month, according to the latest Index of Production released by National Statistics.

Industrial production has edged down 0.1% in January from December, while December's reading has been revised to a 0% increase from the -0.1% previously estimated. On the year to January, industrial production has risen 0.4%; down from the upwardly revised 0.9% yearly increase posted in December, previously estimated 0.6%.

Output of the manufacturing industries has increased 0.4% in January, fuelled by the 2.0% increase in machinery and equipment industries and the 1.4% growth posted in chemicals and man-made fibre industries. In the latest three months, however, manufacturing output has remained unchanged, as the 1.9% increase on electricity, gas and water supply industries' output, has been offset by a 1.9% fall in mining and quarrying output.
