Jobless rate in the UK was 6.7% for the three months to February 2009, up from revised 6.1% in the previous quarter, the Office for National Statistics said Wednesday. That was in line with economists' expectations.
The claimant count was 1.46 million in March 2009, up 73,700 over the previous month and up 672,100 over the year. The claimant count rate was 4.5%.
The annual growth rate of average earnings including bonuses was 0.1% in the three months to February, down 1.6 percentage points from the previous period. Excluding bonuses, it rose 3.2%.
There were 462,000 job vacancies in the three months to March 2009, down 68,000 over the previous quarter and down 230,000 over the year.
