Mortgage approvals in the UK totaled 37,937 in February, up from 31,791 in the previous month, a report from the Bank of England showed Monday. Economists expected mortgage approvals to come in at 34,000.

In February, net lending secured on dwellings increased GBP1.5 billion, larger than the GBP1.1 billion rise in January.

During the month, consumer credit fell by GBP0.2 billion, in contrast to a GBP0.2 billion rise in the preceding month.
