U.K. telecoms regulator Ofcom has published draft regulations that will legalize the use of wireless transmitters for iPods and other MP3 players.

Wireless FM transmitters allow MP3 players to transmit audio to in car entertainment systems and other radios. Despite low power consumption, such devices have been illegal in the U.K and Europe.

The draft regulations outline exemptions to 169.4MHz to 169.8MHz band will be opened up to low power devices such as hearing aids, walkie-talkies, alarms systems, tracking and tracing systems and meter reading devices.

The regulations are expected to come into affect in December this year.
