British retail sales rise in December, where the reading with auto fuel matched forecasts of 0.6% advance compared with the prior reading of -0.4% which was revised to -0.5%. The annual reading exceeded estimates of 2.4% as it came in at 2.6%, while the previous reading of 0.7% was downwardly revised to 0.4%.

As for the reading excluding auto fuel, it surged 0.6% on the monthly basis, lower than projections of 0.7%, yet above the revised -0.8% which was -0.7% initially. On the year, sales came in line with predictions of 1.7%, above the prior 0.5% which was revised down to 0.0%.
