FXstreet.com (Barcelona) - Retail sales volume has posted an unexpected increase in February on a considerable increase of sales at food stores, although the increase has been broad based, according to data released by national Statistics.
From January to February, retail sales posted a 1.0% increase, instead of the 0.2% ease expected by the market, a somewhat larger increase than the 0.8% posted on the previous month. Food store sales posted a 1.6% rise in February, the largest jump on food sales since the 1.9% seen in June 2006. Sales in non food stores grew 0.5% on the month.
The three month sales volume rose 1.0 from December to February, following a 0.7% increase in the three months to January.
