FXstreet.com (Barcelona) - Retail sales have increased considerably in the United Kingdom from April to May boosted by sharp increases on food and clothing, according to figures released by National Statistics.
Sales have increased 3.5% in May, reflecting increases in all sectors, while in the three months to May, retail sales posted a 1.8% increase. Year on year, sales have posted an 8.1% increase. These figures improve sharply the experts expectations of a 0.1% monthly decline, and the 4.1% year on year increase expected by the analysts.
Food stores posted the largest increase in sales during the month of May, as sales of clothing and footwear rose 9.2% on the month.
