UK visible trade deficit widened to 9247 million pounds in December compared with the prior deficit of 8736 million pounds which was revised to 8460 million pounds deficit, while analysts expected the deficit to narrow to 8600 million pounds.

Trade balance non EU also showed narrowed deficit to 5817 million pounds from the revised 4888 million pounds which was 5028 million pounds, yet economists predicted the deficit to decline to 4875 million pounds.

Total trade deficit increased to 4831 million pounds from November's deficit of 4123 million pounds after it was revised up to 3947 million pounds deficit, which is worse than forecasts of 4000 million pounds deficit.
