RTTNews - U.K.'s visible trade deficit rose to GBP 7 billion in April from a deficit of GBP 6.5 billion in March, the Office for National Statistics said Wednesday. Economists had forecast the shortfall to contract to GBP 6.4 billion.

Total exports of goods rose 0.6% to GBP 18.86 billion, while imports climbed 2.6% to GBP 25.86 billion.

Total trade deficit that includes both trade in goods and services was GBP 3 billion in April, up from a revised deficit of GBP 2.7 billion in March. The deficit was expected to contract to GBP 2.4 billion.

Further, U.K.'s non-EU trade deficit ballooned to GBP 4.1 billion from March's revised deficit of GBP 3.4 billion.
