A few days ago Universal announced that a number of artists donated their songs for used on a new compilation to be released in aid of the Japan Red Cross following the devastating earthquake and tsunami that hit earlier this month.

U2, Rihanna, Bon Jovi and Justin Bieber are amongst the artists who contributed songs.

We are doing it only digitally because it is faster. [It will be] a worldwide release.

The album features 38 songs from some of the hottest musicians today and some legends. The album kicks off with John Lennon's Imagine and is followed by Bob Dylan's Shelter from the Storm, as well as Bruce Springsteen's Human Touch.

The album, though, is predominantly by modern musicians. Lady Gaga's Born This Way, is featured on the compliation album as is Firework by Katy Perry, It's OK by Cee Lo Green, Whenever, Wherever by Shakira and Waiting on the World to Change by John Mayer.

The album costs $9.99 and can be purchased on iTunes. All the proceeds from the album's sale will benefit the Japanese Red Cross Society.
