UPDATE 12:25 P.M.: NC A&T said the lockdown has been lifted. The North Carolina school did not elaborate on whether there was actually a gunman on the campus, which was reported to police around 9 a.m. EDT Friday.

"The University lock down has been lifted for the campus. Normal activities will resume," the school wrote on the North Carolina A&T website at 12:25 p.m.

Greensboro Police Department Chief Ken Miller told WFMY that searches on the Greensboro campus did not turn up a gunman.

A NC A&T official spoke to the Greensboro television station about the lockdown:

The North Carolina A&T University campus is under lockdown Friday morning amid reports of a man with a gun on the school’s Greensboro, N.C., campus.

The university posted an update on the front page of its website at 11:07 a.m. EDT Friday:

"The campus is on lock down. Just to confirm, the University Police Department received a report of an unknown black male with a weapon in the area of the General Classroom Building. No shots have been fired. The unknown suspect is approximately 5'11" wearing a blue jacket, blue jeans, blue cap and white t- shirt. The University Police Department is conducting a campus-wide search. Parents and Guardians are encouraged to remain at their location. We will provide updates as they become available."

The update was preceded by a similar message about an hour earlier:

No shots have been fired. The unknown suspect is approximately 5'11" wearing a blue jacket, blue jeans, blue cap and white t- shirt.
