A homeless man stabbed a toddler, the boy’s father, two women and another man Monday morning near Riverside Park on Manhattan’s Upper West Side.

One of the women, a 36-year-old, was stabbed in the chest with scissors and was in critical condition, law enforcement officials told NBC New York. The severity of the other injuries was not immediately reported, but the other woman was slashed in the neck, the toddler was stabbed in the arm, and the boy’s father was stabbed in the neck. A 36-year-old man was also stabbed in the stomach.

There were conflicting reports of the toddler's age. NBC New York said the boy was 2 years old while NY1 reported that he was 3.

NY1 reported that a fifth victim was stabbed by the suspect, described as an “emotionally disturbed man.” NBC New York said the suspect, a 43-year-old with psychological problems, appeared to be homeless

The stabbing spree began around 8 a.m. near 64th Street and ended three blocks south from where the attack occurred, NBC New York reported. The crime scene was near a running and biking path near Riverside Park.
