Moscow’s involvement in the European missile defense sector is a better way to relieve Russia’s anxiety about the project, a top US State Department officer said in a report on Tuesday.

The officer declared that the US poses no threat to the Russian military or government, nor does it intimidate Russia’s tactical policies. He assured that cooperation between the countries is the ideal way for the Russian government to achieve confidence.

The declaration came soon after the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov showed his concern about United States’ denial to provide lawful guarantee the country will not direct its European missile defense system towards Russia and retaliated by warning that Moscow will pull out from the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START), which was formed in 1991.

The State Department is hopeful that the dialogue with Moscow on the subject will continue.
