FXstreet.com (Barcelona) - The volume of unemployed workers applying for jobless benefits for the first time has posted in the last week of January the largest increase in almost 30 years, according to data released by the U.S. Labor Department.

In the week of January the 31st, the seasonally adjusted jobless claims rate has increased by 35k to 626k, the highest level since October 1982, well above the 2,000 increase forecasted by the analysts. The four-week moving average, considered more trustworthy, as it erases seasonal influences, has risen by 39,000 to 582,250.
