The U.S. Labor Department released today the initial jobless claims for the week ending January 9, where jobless claims rose unexpectedly by 11,000 to 444,000 from the prior revised estimate of 434,000 and worse than median estimates of 437,000, while continuing claims dropped better than expectations to 4.596 million from the prior revised estimate of 4.807 million and the estimated 4.750 million.
