FXstreet.com (Barcelona) - Non farm employment decreased in April although the decline has been much softer than expected, and in a far lesser extent than the average job losses posted in the first three moths of the year, according to data released by the US Labor Department.

In April, non farm payrolls volume decreased by 20,000 in the US, whereas market analysts had advance a 78,000 decrease in payrolls. In the first three months of the year, non farm payrolls decline totaled 240,000. The unemployment rate has edged down to 5.0% from 5.1% in March, instead of increasing to 5.2% as it was expected.

The average workweek has decreased to 33.7 hours in April from 33.8 hours in March, and the average hourly earnings have edged up 0.1% on the month, to $ 17.88, while over the past 12 months hourly earnings have risen by 3.4%.
