The United States will provide $110 million in emergency aid to Pakistan, the Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Tuesday.

I am confident that Pakistan will succeed in confronting this humanitarian challenge if the international community steps up and provides the support that is needed, she said.

Providing this assistance is not only the right thing to do, but we believe it is essential to global security and the security of the United States, and we are prepared to do more as the situation demands, she added.

One hundred million dollars of the aid comes from the State Department and the other $10 million comes from the Pentagon. A spokesman from Pentagon said that two C-17 cargo planes will fly to Pakistan Wednesday, carrying Halal meals, water trucks and tents.
