“This is Us” Jack
Milo Ventimiglia says “This is Us” viewers will definitely find out when and how Jack died. NBC

Get your tissues ready, “This is Us” fans. During Season 1, episode 5 it was revealed that Milo Ventimiglia’s character Jack is dead. The news shocked viewers and the “Gilmore Girls” actor, but now he’s in the know and is promising answers ahead.

Ventimiglia sat down for an interview with The Wrap, during which he opened up about Jack’s death. He shared with interviewer Stuart Brazell that he knew exactly what happened to the Pearson family patriarch. While he was unable to reveal Jack’s cause of death, he assured fans of the NBC series that they would find out soon enough.

“I do know when you’re going to know, but just wait,” he said. “You may get some teasers as to when, very soon. But I think the thing to know is that Jack’s time with his family is limited. But he’s not going anywhere because Jack and Rebecca are in the past, and reflect very much how they impact the Big Three in the present day. I think it’s safe to say that Jack will be around for the life of the show.”

Although there’s no telling when details about Jack’s death will be revealed, those tuning in to “This is Us” can expect to get some serious scoop on the character in Season 1, episode 12. The entire episode will take place in the past, at which time Jack and Rebecca (Mandy Moore) were still married and their three children were just infants. Moore and her on-screen daughter Chrissy Metz shared some details on the upcoming episode, both claiming that it left them in shambles.

“If I think about it, I will cry right now,” Metz said (via Entertainment Tonight). “I saw a screening of it last week and I almost had to excuse myself…I need to not ever be around people when I watch it. It’s so beautiful.”

Tuesday’s flashback episode has been discussed on more than one occasion by members of the “This is Us” cast. During a sit down with The Hollywood Reporter on Jan. 8, Ventimiglia revealed that the episode would revisit a moment from the premiere. He teased the return of Dr. K (Gerald McRaney) as well as a return to a moment between he and Rebecca in the hospital after the birth of their children. Ventimiglia recalled that the dialog during that particular scene was muted when the show first aired it, leaving viewers with no clue what he and his on-screen wife were chatting about.

“The scene in the pilot from the hospital with Rebecca was muted and viewers didn’t hear what we say, so we had never seen that,” he said at the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour. “So seeing it, it was one of those things where you forgot about it. It was like finding this favorite pair of socks in a drawer and putting them on and wiggling them around. That was the silliest analogy…but it was very fun to see it.”

Tune in to “This is Us” on Tuesdays at 9 p.m. EST on NBC.
