The U.S. will surpass Saudi Arabia as the world’s biggest crude oil producer by 2015, two years earlier than the International Energy Agency estimated a year ago, according to a report released by the group on Tuesday.

Thanks to new technologies, like fracking and horizontal drilling, that can tap previously unreachable reserves, the U.S. energy landscape is changing.

The agency’s annual World Energy Outlook, released in London, said that while the U.S. will surpass Saudi Arabia in 2015, U.S. shale production will fall starting in 2030.
