It's no secret that Manchester United despite being one of the biggest clubs in world football are finding it increasingly difficult to compete with the emerging influence of foreign money in the game.
The likes of Manchester City, Chelsea, Real Madrid and Barcelona seem to be on another planet when it comes to bidding for players. Sir Alex Ferguson has already missed out on top targets Eden Hazard, Jordi Alba and now faces a struggle to secure the signing of Luka Modric from Tottenham, thanks to increased interest from Real Madrid, Chelsea and PSG who could each blow United out the water in a bidding war.
So what would happen if United were to be taken over by an Arab Sheik or a Russian billionaire this summer? Would they finally be able to stack up the cash to secure Luka Modric? Would they be able to tempt Gareth Bale away from White Hart Lane in a double swoop? What about the elusive defensive midfielder they have been after?
Sir Alex Ferguson witnessed his Manchester United team miss out on a 20th league title by throwing away an eight-point lead in the process and eventually losing out to city rivals Manchester City on the last kick of the Premier League season.
Losing out on goal difference proves the margins between the two Manchester teams is minimal but with City's spending power you can be sure they will spend big this summer to further strengthen their squad. If Untied aren't careful they could find themselves falling behind City in the years to come, so it is no surprise Sir Alex has begun work on strengthening his team early. We look at the transfer activities that could well be happening at Old Trafford this summer.
