Lionel Messi is the most humble footballer that you’ll ever come across. He’ll be the last player to suggest that he is the best player at the moment let alone the best of all time. Since he broke Gerd Muller’s goal record of the most goals scored in one calendar year, his reputation of being the World’s best has taken a step-up as people are saying he is the best of all time.
There’s no doubt he is the best player of this generation but questions still loom over whether he is better than the Maradona and Pele. Everyone can see similarities between Messi and Maradona. The close control, the pace of their dribbling and most of all their appetite for goals. But if you can compare the two players, it becomes very difficult to choose. Many people say Messi needs Barcelona to play well as he doesn’t perform whilst with Argentina. Whereas Maradona played in average Napoli and Argentina sides which were highly successful.
5) Jan Vertonghen – The Belgian defender has been a coup for Spurs and one of the signings of the season. He scored Tottenham’s only and winning goal in their 1-0 win over Swansea. Vertonghen has said that he turned down a move to Arsenal because Arsene Wenger wanted him to play in midfield. Perhaps Wenger is now kicking himself as the Belgian defender is showing why he should have listened to him. He has been the ideal replacement for Ledley King and if he signed for Arsenal, he could have made a good partner for Koscielny or Vermaelen.
4) Adel Taarabt – A 52nd minute deflected strike followed by his second in the 62nd minute helped QPR defeat a pathetic Fulham. The Moroccan was playing as I he was back in the Championship. Now under Harry Redknapp, it looks like Taarabt is going to fulfil his potential. It took 17 matches for QPR to get their first win but they finally achieved what many thought was impossible. They have a good squad of players and can easily survive the drop. They just need every player to pull together and build on Taarabt’s performance.
5) Michu – Swansea’s star man scored two more goals in Swansea’s unfortunate loss against Norwich City. Although the Swans lost, Michu showed why he is the signing of the season. He is undoubtedly one of the league’s best strikers and a real coup for Michael Laudrup. Michu could easily move to a much bigger club but for the meantime, he can easily help Swansea fight for a Europa League place.
4) Nikica Jelavic – The Everton striker scored the Toffee’s winner over Spurs after the 90th minute. Jelavic has struggled to find playing time this season but last season he showed tremendous form and rivalled Papiss Cisse for the signing of the January transfer window. Everton have coped without the Croatian striker but his goal this weekend really helped them push on and go level on points with Spurs and break back into the top four. They now sit three points behind Chelsea who have just left for the FIFA World Club’s Cup.
Chelsea vs Nordjaelland was an expected thrashing for the English club. The UEFA Champions League holders beat the Danes by four goals to nil. We weren’t expecting The Danish club to cause an upset but we thought they might’ve scored at least one goal.
Unfortunately for the English Premier League, Chelsea are out of this year’s tournament already. After Di Matteo failed to get wins in Turin against Juventus and in Ukraine against Shakhtar Donetsk, Chelsea made it impossible for them to qualify.
Comparably, Nordjaelland are also out of this year’s Champions League. They currently have one point and expected losses to Chelsea, Juventus and Shakhtar Donetsk. Amazingly the Danish side actually drew to Juventus in their first leg. But that was just a mere glimmer of hope which raised the hopes of Nordjaelland fans for a week or two.
All Bayern have to do, to top group F is to match Valencia’s result against Lille who currently sit bottom of the group. BATE also have a chance to make it through to the Europa League if they match Lille’s result. So we should be expected an enthralling game as both clubs still have things to play for. Of cause it would make it better if Bayern needed a win or BATE could still qualify for the knockout stages but nevertheless we should still get a good game.
Bayern are currently top of the Bundesliga by eight points. Comparable to Bayern’s form, BATE also sit top of the Belarusian league by seven points. So both teams can attack and defend in their own right but which team will be most attacking tonight? I think we can probably guarantee that Bayern will play for a 1-0 win. They know that this will ensure them finishing top and they won’t want to play with an open defence.
BATE on the other hand don’t have much to lose. The Europa League will be a bonus on top of the Belarusian title. I predict that they will go out all guns blazing to ensure their path to the Europa League and to get the double over the German leaders. My prediction is a 2-1 win for BATE.
