Right when it looked liked the Sox were going to get their entire team healthy, another injury has struck their fragile lineup. Willie Middlebrooks got hit in his right wrist by a 95 mile an hour fastball thrown by Esmil Rogers in the ninth inning, suffering a broken wrist. At this point it is still unsure how long he will miss, but missing the season is the likely scenario. It seems like the Sox may not ever get healthy enough to put there projected starting lineup on the field.
Middlebrooks was the who was good enough to allow the Red Sox to give away Kevin Youkilis. This move may come back to haunt them now that Youkilis' went down to the injury bug making him the 25th player to go on the disabled list this year. The Red Sox have had a Major League leading amount of games missed due to injury as of when Middlebrooks went down. If the Sox can actually grind out a playoff run it would be nothing short of miraculous with the luck they have had with the disabled list.
With Michigan starting in the top ten in the coaches poll, Denard Robinson is a hot name in the Heisman debate.
If Michigan stays ranked high and they win the Big Ten title, or at least a birth in the Big Ten title game, the exposure could really help Robinson be a Heisman hopeful. Robinson's numbers have improved in the passing game and we all know he can run almost at will. Under the tutelage of Brady Hoke it seems like he has a real chance to become a high profile passer. If you look at his passing numbers from last year they were much better than his critics gave him credit for, calling him a poor passer.
The Detroit Lions finished the 2011 regular season with a 10-6 record making it into the playoffs as a wild card. The loss in the first round of the playoffs to New Orleans 45-28 was a crushing defeat that has fans thinking it might have been a fluke season. With a strong passing offense led by fourth year pro Matthew Stafford and superstar receiver Calvin "Megatron" Johnson, the Lions should be lighting up the scoreboard once again. The one question is with their running game.
Jahvid Best showed flashes but missed more than half of the season with a concussion and has yet to be cleared to play this season.
Rookie Mikel Leshoure is suspended for the first three games of the season and has been dinged up in training camp as well. Kevin Smith, who returned to the Lions after a short absence and looked like he was hungry to be back in the NFL, may ultimately be the Lions starting tailback.
