1. #3 Georgia vs. #2 Alabama @ Georgia Dome
Aaron Murray and the third ranked Georgia Bulldogs with take on the #2 team in the nation, the Crimson Tide. The winner of this game will be playing in the BCS National Championship game in Miami against Notre Dame. Biggest factor? The quarterbacks in this game going up against top defenses. Bulldogs quarterback Aaron Murray is leading the nation in quarterback rating at 177.1 but will face the toughest defense of all of college football in Alabama. Alabama gives up just 9.3 points per game so look for Murray to struggle in the early goings. On the other side, Crimson Tide quarterback A.J McCarron is ranked 2nd in the nation in QB rating just below Murray at 176.3. McCarron will be going up against the 16th ranked defense allowing 17.7 points per game. Two top quarterbacks going against two of the top defenses. This game will be a dandy. Kickoff will take place at 4 E.T on Saturday.
2. # 16 UCLA at #8 Stanford
Thursday night, the San Antonio Spurs take on the defending champion Miami Heat in South Beach. It will be the first time these teams take the court against each other this season and both teams have double digit wins. The Miami Heat (10-3) and the San Antonio Spurs (12-3) are both in the top five in points scored per game at 100+ however the Heat have one of the worst defenses in the league allowing 100.3 points per game.
This game could be a preview of a potential NBA Finals series if both teams continue to play as well as they are playing now. However, the Spurs played this well last year but didn’t get past the Western Conference finals getting eliminated by the Oklahoma City Thunder.
The Heat are on a four-game winning streak right now and are undefeated at home however playing on the road will not be a factor for the Spurs because they have played the majority of their games on the road. San Antonio is 9-1 on the road up with their only loss In LA against the above .500 LA team, the Clippers.
The two division leaders square off tonight in a battle in the Pac 12. De’Anthony Thomas and the Oregon Ducks (6-0) will play at Sun Devil Stadium against Taylor Kelly and the Arizona State Sun Devils.
This game is the biggest for the Sun Devils up to this point of the season. Last game against Colorado, ASU dominated the Buffalos 51 to 17 with a outstanding performace from quarterback Taylor Kelly and being awarded PAC-12 player of the week with his five touchdowns.
For ASU to win this game, Asu has to make the Ducks one dimensional. ASU passing defense is amongst the b 272 yards per game and pass defense is only about half of that. If asu can turn them into a running team then ASU can have a lot of success. Even though Oregon has Kenjon Barner and De’Anthony Thomas, ASU can shut them down if they stop the passing game.
Last season, the Sacramento Kings finished last in the Pacific division for the fourth straight year. Last season also marked the fifth year in a row without a playoff spot after making the postseason for eight consecutive years. In the offseason, the Kings had another lottery pick and drafted First Team All-American Thomas Robinson out of Kansas.
Robinson is not the only key addition to this young Kings 2012-2013 roster. After playing basketball overseas last year during the shortened NBA season, Aaron Brooks decided to sign with the Kings and will fill the role of the starting point guard spot in which the Kings have problems.
The Kings finished 26th overall last season in assists, so signing Brooks wasn’t a bad idea as the Kings will now have two quality point guards in Isaiah Thomas and Aaron Brooks. Last season, when Thomas was on the bench, Jimmer Fredette played the point and the Kings really struggled at that point in the game because Jimmer didn’t have good ball handling and passing abilities.
Between Kenjon Barner, De’Anthony Thomas And Marcus Mariota, Who's More Valuable TO Oregon Ducks Offense
The No.2-ranked Oregon Ducks have been a powerhouse for the last couple of years with speedsters such as LaMichael James, Dennis Dixon and even tight ends such as Ed Dickson.
In 2011, James led the Ducks to a Rose Bowl victory and the National Championship the year before in which they lost by three.
This season, the Ducks (6-0) have defeated quality teams such as University of Arizona, 49-0, the 23rd-ranked Washington Huskies, 52-21 and their lowest margin of victory was a 17 in Week 2 win over Fresno State.
While James was the biggest impact player on the Ducks in 2011, Oregon's receiver/running back De'Anthony Thomas has stepped in and has been dominant game in and game out. Many players on the Ducks contribute to the success such as quarterback Marcus Mariota and running back Kenjon Barner, but without Thomas they likely wouldn’t be as explosive offensively.
