‘Vampire Diaries’ Season 4 Spoilers: Watch The New Cold Open Here [VIDEO]

Season four of “The Vampire Diaries” premieres in a little over a week, and to celebrate the CW has released the brand new cold opener for the hit show.

In the new minute long video, “The Vampire Diaries” sums up the massive amount of drama that went down in season three. So, let’s recap with the video!

Mystic Falls is a quiet town and also a bloody one. It’s the home of vampires, doppelgangers, werewolves, hybrids, witches, and even a few humans. While these supernatural creatures have lived (and been hunted) among others for centuries, a new war is breaking out.

The video shows a clip of those that protect the supernatural in town, including Matt, Sheriff Forbes and Mayor Lockwood. But unfortunately in season three, evil Alaric put everyone in danger when he informed the Mystic Falls town council that the sheriff has a vampire for a daughter and the mayor has a half vampire, half werewolf for a son.

“The Vampire Diaries” cold opener ties up the friendships in town, the enemies (Klaus), and of course those that Mystic Falls lost last season (Alaric). Finally, the video replays the devastating car accident that viewers witnessed in the season three finale. While Matt is attempting to drive Elena to safety, Rebekah appears in front of their car, forcing Matt to drive off Wickery bridge. As the car fills with water, Stefan comes to the rescue, but at Elena’s request takes Matt to the surface first, leaving Elena to ultimately drown.

“And then their is me,” Elena voices over as the video replays the underwater scene. “I’m human.” But as the camera cuts to her lifeless body on a tray in the morgue, she adds, “at least I was.”

“The Vampire Diaries” season four is set to premiere on Thursday, Oct. 11. This season the CW drama will focus on the fallout that occurred at the end of season three. Elena will be struggling with her transition into a vampire, Jeremy will be dealing with the death of another one of their guardians/his sister, and the supernaturals in town have to worry about not only the newfound knowledge the council has on them, but a new and dangerous vampire hunter named Connor.
