Damon better watch his girl! “The Vampire Diaries” just added a new heartthrob to its fifth season, and it sounds like he’ll be getting pretty close to college-bound Elena.

This latest casting scoop comes from E! Online. Shaun Sipos (“Melrose Place,” “Life Unexpected”) will play Aaron, a hot new Whitmore College student who's attempting to “escape his tortured past.” Aaron and Elena will “bond over the fact that they’ve both experienced and survived dark family tragedies.”

Sipos' casting news may upset Delena fans, who finally got their wish when Elena professed her love for Damon in the season four finale. Breaking Stefan’s heart, Elena told the eldest Salvatore brother that she wanted to be with him.

“In death you’re the one that made me feel the most alive,” she told her beau. “You’ve been a terrible person … I’m not sorry I’m in love with you. I love you, Damon.”

E! hinted that Delena will find something affecting “their relationship big-time in the first half of the season” -- nonsupernatural related. The new couple will fortunately find some happiness when the season premieres in October.

Executive producer Julie Plec said the writers plan to keep Elena and Damon “together and happy for the time being.” Fans can expect the couple to be “having hot lovin’ sex, and episode two director Joshua Butler gave fans a first look at their “epic” romance.

“#LiveFromMysticFalls: @IanSomerhalder + @NinaDobrev = EPIC #TVD ROMACNE #Delena #TVD 5x02 #DirectorPride,” he tweeted along with a sexy photo of the couple.

If things don’t work out between Aaron and Elena, he’ll have a string of other “Vampire Diaries” newcomers to fall back on:

Janina Gavankar – The former “True Blood” actress will play Tessa, a “beautiful, exotic and self-assured woman” who comes to Mystic Falls to rekindle an old flame.

Olga Fonda – The actress will play “a mysterious European beauty who follows Rebekah and Matt back to Mystic Falls.” She has an ominous warning for Stefan about the Originals, but she won’t be leaving town after delivering it. Instead she’ll stick around as a potential love interest for Matt after Rebekah leaves.

Kendrick Sampson – The former “Greek” star will play Jesse, a “hot, smart, confident and disarmingly sweet” upperclassman at Whitmore. He’ll reportedly catch the eye of Caroline … but isn’t vampire friendly.

Season five of CW's “The Vampire Diaries” will premiere on Thursday, Oct. 3 at 8 p.m. What do you think about the latest Delena news? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section.
